Natural recovery starts within hours or days of the injury and progresses rapidly at first, gradually slowing down until a steady level or ‘plateau’ is reached. More tissue recovery occurs in the first 3 months than in the next 3 months and this ‘natural recovery’ is probably complete within 1 to 2 years. Of course, more minor injuries recover much faster than this and may recover completely within a few weeks or months at most, during which time the injured person feels progressively better.
